Major kudos to Pere for running an exceptional training camp! This trip very much lived up to my expectations. I am immensely grateful that we were able to have this experience despite only having 3 clients. The small group allowed both Pere and Libert to custom-tailor the day-to-day plans to our capabilities, as well as customize the routes based off of road conditions and the fatigue of the group. His adjustments to the routes maximized enjoyment and reduced repetitive (or needlessly difficult) routing. As a result, I finished the week both feeling strong and accomplished in that I tackled all of the planned climbs and got to experience many parts of the island. Shifting the dates to have a Saturday start and Saturday end (from Sundays) made travel from the United States much harder! Some carriers, such as BA, only offer flights to Las Palmas on the weekends. As a result, in order to arrive on a Friday for the Saturday pickup, I had to fly 3 flights (instead of 2) and 2 carriers (instead of 1). Update the “Nutrition during the Rides” section of the Roadbook ... “picnic” lunches were not supplied similar to the trans trips, lunch was generally purchased separately. This is totally fine (nutrition from the van was adequate), and it was fun to patronize local businesses ... the Roadbook just wasn’t entirely accurate. Thanks to everyone at Thomson who made this trip one I will never forget. I’ll be back for trip #4 ...
Both Pere and Liberte were great. In fact, the week felt more like being with five friends, albeit with two of them doing all the organizing. The daily schedule was followed to the extent that everyone was comfortable. We always started on time however were presented options along the route to shorten/extend each ride as it suited the group. Both Pere and Liberte managed to present the facts yet allow the group to discuss and decide how they wanted to proceed. Input concerning distance/time and difficulty was very accurate and helpful in gauging effort. The setup of the rental bike was very good. We only needed to straighten the stem slightly however all critical dimensions were spot-on. The bike operated without issue. All in all, a good experience.
Beautiful island for early season training. Lots of wonderful picturesque climbs. Great staff support and a great hotel near the beach.
This was my first bike trip/vacation and it was epic by every definition of the word. Scenery, weather, staff, accommodations and road surface made this trip one of the best vacations of any kind I have taken. My biggest concern going into it was road conditions and I can say 90% of roads we were on were as good as they can be.
Great trip! Beautiful place to ride, especially in late Winter.
This was my third Thomson Tour. if Thomson wasn’t fantastic at what they do I would not keep coming back. Thomson has a great team, epic rides and wonderful support. Plus they offer fantastic destinations to ride your bike! I will be back for sure!
Only recently have I began exploring these exotic [ to me anyways ] cycling hotbeds and I’ve found that my desire to explore is bigger than ever. That’s what lead me to research tour companies and ultimately Thomson tours. Thomson Tours does all the heavy lifting which means for a guy like me, who is not an experienced traveller, that I can just focus on the enjoyment of riding. For that I owe you and all the guides a debt of gratitude - these memories will last a lifetime. Thanks so much.
10+ out of 10, exceeded all my expectations, thanks so much
Another great Thomson trip. Great rides, super support, fantastic staff.
Great care and focus by staff throughout the week. Smaller size group gave staff the opportunity to relate and serve and they took advantage and were totally engaged.
Everything “fit” ...the rides, the hotel and location, the ability of staff to improvise key changes when necessary ... Excellence abounded at every circumstance and the pleasure and comfort of all participants was obvious throughout.
Despite some bad weather, overall a great trip and the guides were fantastic and professional and adjusted smoothly when the day’s route had to be modified on account of weather and/or road closures. I definitely look forward to my next Thomson trip!
I do think the food is disappointing at the Hotel Mogan and I think you should organise some nights out at good local restaurants.
For example I had lunch at a delicious asador one day, please ask Pere for the details.
The amazing roads and scenery on Gran Canaria, combined with the inclusion of the El Teide climb on Tenerife (over 7,000 ft climb) was a fantastic way to build some early-season fitness while enjoying incredible scenery and a really fun group of riders and ride leaders. I can’t think of a better way to spend a week riding this early in the year!
What a great trip I had! I do not routinely get to ride in a group and really learned to enjoy that part of the experience. The organization and support staff were outstanding. Thank you to all! I am going to sign up for the Dolomites next fall and as long as I can meet the challenges, you will see me on Thomson Bike Tours.
Great way to kick off the cycling season with very challenging riding. Just what I needed.
Pushed me to my limits
For kicking off your year, whether you’re racing, or just trying to get your fitness ready for doing centuries or gran fondos, there’s no more impactful way to spend a week than this climbing camp on Gran Canaria. No matter what your level of fitness, there is something to challenge everyone, and you’ll feel the improvement on your fitness the rest of the year.
I already did this in Facebook!
I’ve been training and competing in ironman triathlons for several years, having attended many training camps aing the way. This camp was the perfect blend of challenging yet beautiful terrain that left me stronger and more confident than ever heading into racing season. Thank you!
Loved the rides. Loved the staff and ride leaders. Would have liked to leave earlier each morning so had more time to relax or sight see or get massages in afternoon.
As I stated above this was an excellent way to motivate and start the season. When I returned to Colorado the weather was nice so I could ride outside. My power and endurance was much better with this camp under my belt than usual at this time of year.

The week was just amazing. Before leaving for GC, I doubted that I would be able to ride all the climbs every day. And thanks to our awesome group leaders and great group dynamic I did it. I am very grateful for that week!
This trip probably represents the best value in the Thomson lineup. Gran Canaria is an amazing place to ride, rivaling anything on continental Europe. Combined with the excellent Thomson staff and superb accommodation and you have an experience beyond comparison.
Not into sales testimonials. The crew and the riders made the trip. We had a great crew and we had great riders and many of these are now newfound friends that I’ll be riding with again. Thanks for an enjoyable expereince
The ride leaders are amazing! Had a great time!
Great trip. As I mentioned, my one suggestion would be to make the warm-up ride leading to the climbs a slower pace. A conversational pace. On most mornings it seems we started out too fast.
With the harsh winter we were experiencing on the East Coast the trip to Gran Canaria was just the ticket to more than jump start the season. I couldn’t have asked for better weather, more challenging and scenic climbs with great riding partners. Ride just once with Thomson and you become part of an extended family that will keep you coming back year after year for the very best in cycling adventures!
These trips are so “dialed in,” I know that I won’t have to worry about a thing. The piece of mind that provides allows me to reach my training goals. Heck, I think I have fewer concerns on these trips than I have at home!
The 2015 Gran Canaria Training Camp exceeded our expectations in all areas. Adam, Kate, Peter and Sergei were terrific hosts and helped make the Valley of the Tears that little bit less painful! Next year I will definitely take Peter’s suggestions to heart and bring some lower gears as the island is the most challenging that I’ve ever ridden. We really enjoyed meeting some great people over our two weeks and hope to see them again next year!
The ultimate riding experience; incredible climbs with great weather!
Was very well organised and I was able to challenge myself in beautiful surroundings so now know I can do 5 tough rides running. Great new friends as well which is always important
Thomson Tours does a wonderful job of making everyone feel included! My overall experience was wonderful. Such a neat group of people to spend our cycling vacation with.
The Gran Canaria camp was tough…not for the timid. The camp provided terrific, challenging, beautiful routes, and an escape from cold, snowy weather at home. The Thomson team is extraordinarily professional, friendly, and supportive. Completed 3 tours and this camp, and considering options for our next Thomson tour.
