This was a trip of a lifetime! The Piedmont region is rustic and beautiful, while the climbs were picturesque and magnificent along rustic quiet roads. The staff were excellent, top notch, always helpful and able to answer any questions about the region. What a trip! Thank you!
I have been a repeat Thomson client for 15 years and I keep coming back because of the great riding and outstanding staff. My latest trip was the Trans Piedmont and it was fantastic. That part of Italy is so beautiful and the roads have little traffic. Peter consistently puts together amazing routes which are so well thought out. But what sets the trips apart is the staff, they took such good care of us and were flexible and accommodating. Amazing trip!
A bucket list trip that certainly lived up to expectations. Fabulous scenery, spectacular riding and good weather really made for a memorable trip. As always the Thomson staff did a great job and ensured everyone had a great time. Can’t wait for the next trip.
The 2017 Trans Piemonte was my 7th trip with Thomson - and it was definitely one of the most enjoyable and challenging trips of all. The variety of climbs (my favorite being the Colle Delle Finestre), the views, hotels, food - all first class (in typical Thomson fashion). I would highly recommend this trip.
What can I say…this was my 9th TBT experience and I keep returning because Peter and his team simply provide an atmosphere, cycling routes and overall professionalism that are second to none! This trip went off without a glitch and it ranks right up there as one of my favourite TBT experiences. Bravo to Sergi, Sergi, Sergio and Marc!
Trans-Piemonte is an incredibly well-laid out trip. I love how it first gives you the flavor of the Barolo region with its beautiful vineyards and multitude of challenging small climbs, then takes you into the Alps for some of the big, iconic, climbs like the Izoard, Agnello, and Sestriere. One other suggestion: Please set up a file/photo sharing site ( drop box, flikr, whatever you prefer ) at the BEGINNING of the trip. Give out the info in the first briefing. That way everyone has a place to upload and share photos during the trip. Many people were asking for this and I think it would greatly enhance everyone’s enjoyment, plus give you lots of content to draw from.
Another outstanding challenging ride through a beautiful part of Italy. Very tough but not over the top.
Great trip. Very challenging riding. Great staff. Lots of fun.
Great trip except for poor road surfaces. Sergio is a great addition to the crew
Fantastic trip from routes through Piedmont vineyards to the Italian Maritime Alps. We enjoyed parts of Italy not usually seen by tourists; hazelnuts being harvested on narrow farm roads, grapes in Barolo being thinned, the smell of freshly mown hay through farmland, then on to the mountain Colle’s with little towns interspersed high up on unlikely ledges of the Maritime Alps. While riding through these small villages, I could imagine where Collodi got some inspiration for Pinocchio. My favorite day was Colle delle Finestre with 9K of gravel at the end. In keeping with a typical rigorous ‘Thomson’ tour, there were always some steep surprise climbs made more fun by the camaraderie of a like minded group of riders. Perfect trip, I’d do it again.
Thanks Peter, for your trip planning, carrying to divergent needs of clients. Italian roads first half of the week were rough, yet beautiful. All the routes were tough, per Thomson protocol. Great memories, now that some time has elapsed.
Thomson is like family to me. Can’t be more articulate.
Same comment as above.
This was my second tour (Trans-Dolomites 2014) and it didn’t disappoint. I really wanted an immersive, incredibly challenging cycling adventure and that is exactly what I received. Most definitely the hardest week ever on the bike and Thomson did a great job of removing all the external stresses and just letting us ride.
I love these trips. It definitely pushes me and I have to train for them but am so rewarded with the quality of the riding and camaraderie!
Again, Thomson has underpromised and overdelivered. Chapeau!
As beautiful as riding a bicycle through a Monet landscape.
Hard! The “hills” in vineyard area were steep, not easy even before reaching the big climbs. Much warmer than I anticipated. Previous week weather might have given a very different impression!
everyone honestly is great. this second trip wasnt my best in that i got some bad saddle sores on the last 2 days and bailed half on the queen day, but i still had an amazing trip. there is good camaraderie among the clients and between clients and staff. I thoroughly enjoyed the van food at the stops…the prosciutto, salame, mortadella,....sandwiches were clutch in motivating to get me to the top of the climb for lunch. I had some technical issues with the bike that the staff took care of without any hassle. the ride leaders waited for me at turns…i foolishly didnt download the gpx files and later found out my garmin couldnt store them….i essentially dropped the ball on several items on this trip and the thomson staff helped we work around any and all issues…while keeping a great attitude and smile.
Beyond the impeccable support, which we have come to expect from Thomson but do not take for granted, the course selection and food (and wine) offerings on this tour were outstanding. As we found, it is not always the big name peaks that are the most challenging and beautiful. Kudos to Peter and the entire team for all of the effort to pull together this new offering.
