Epic Trans-Portugal Unpacked

Portugal is one the best kept secret in European cycling, but not for the 9 guests who joined us this past week to sample of this quiet country’s wondrously diverse terrain.

With magnificent scenery, historic villages and a few big climbs, Portugal has been the ideal way to kick off spring. Endless blue skies greeted us as we landed in Lisbon and stayed with us all the way to Porto, as we traversed almost the entire length of this beautiful country.

Portugal boasts one of Europe’s toughest climbs, at 1,765m (5,800ft) of elevation in 30km (19 miles), the climb to Torre is up with with the legends of the Tour de France. Over the course of a week we tackled an HC climb, six Cat 1 climbs and 5 cat 2 and 3 climbs. The very definition of epic! The incredible weather makes the 17.5k metres of elevation feel like heaven though.

A standout feature of this beautiful trip has to be the ancient villages of whitewashed buildings, pitched on scenic hillsides. With well maintained cobbled sections to greet you periodically en route, you have the sense of being immersed into the character of this wonderful country.

From the epic riding to the stunning hotels, this secret cycling hotspot is one not to miss out on. Why not join us for our next departure, click below to find out more.
