Overview

You’ll start off the week with a testing, yet magnificent ride through the Barolo and Langhe vineyards. Don’t be fooled, there may be no big climbs on this ride, but it’s a leg-breaker!

From Barolo you’ll head through Cuneo and into the high Alps where the serious climbing starts with the Colle della Fauniera, a magnificent climb that has its place in the Top 5 most spectacular climbs in Europe. The Queen stage comes on Day 6 when you’ll take a brief excursion into French territory over the 50km (31 miles) Colle dell’Agnello, topping out at 2,744m (9,000ft).

The final day is equally impressive and features one of Europe’s toughest climbs, the Colle delle Finestre, where Chris Froome attacked 80km from the Finish Line to win the 2018 Giro d’Italia.

Itinerary Detail

Day 1

Distance

Elevation

Benvenuti in Piemonte

Your trip starts at Turin Caselle Airport where our staff will meet you before the transfer to your magnificent castle hotel in Pollenzo.

After lunch, orientation meeting, and bike build-up, you’ll head out on an afternoon warm-up ride through the surrounding Barolo vineyards.

Day 2

Distance

Elevation

Leg-breaking Barolo wine country

A beautiful route through the rolling terrain of the Barolo vineyards, today’s ride may not scale any major heights but it’s a leg-breaker!

Locals have named a succession of short and steep climbs after famous riders. Our ride includes the Gino Bartali Climb, the Louison Bobet Climb and of course, had to end with the toughest one of all, the Marco Pantani Climb. In the evening you’ll enjoy a private Barolo wine-tasting at the hotel.

Tip: do not push too hard on this ride. It is deceptively tough.

Day 3

Distance

Elevation

Through the Langhe vineyards to Cuneo

After yesterday’s tough ride and what awaits over the next few days, we’ve planned an easier ride today. A magnificent route through some of the most remarkable scenery in Piedmont leads us to the town of Cuneo sitting nicely at the base of the Alps.

In the evening, our Ride Leader Sergio, who lives in Cuneo, will take us out for an amazing dinner at his favorite local restaurant.

Tip: yesterday’s ride will have left its mark and the remainder of the week is extremely challenging, so definitely a day to ride easy.
