A minimum 700×38, but feel free to use more rubber for more comfort and grip if your bike has extra tire clearance.

Recommended Gearing

Gravel Explained

Read below for a brief description of our gravel definitions. We have classed the surfaces into five categories, from tarmac to boulders, to give an indication of the amount and level of rough stuff on each trip.

Click below to see Cycling Tips’ great explainer video on gravel surfaces.
GRADE 1
Bad roads, cobbles and rough paved surfaces. You’d find this rideable on a standard road bike.
GRADE 2
Well-made, hard-packed dirt roads offering a road-like experience but without the traffic. Some rutting and looseness of stones.
GRADE 3
Reasonably smooth gravel. Discernible small rocks over a hard-packed surface.
GRADE 4
Rough gravel with conditions that may include shale, larger gravel and rocks. Tubeless tyres and big clearance are the most practical choice.
GRADE 5
Borderline MTB terrain, at the rougher end of the spectrum for the capabilities of most gravel bikes.

Welcome to Barcelona

We’ll pick you up at Barcelona airport and from there straight to the base of the Pyrenees. Our next location will be in a little village in the county of Solsones, one of the hidden gems when it comes to cycling territory.

Solsones is the top pro riders preferred training area. And soon you’ll find out why…and more. No traffic, endless road connections, gravel and paved, you can go easy or you can go extreme, you can have gentle playful rollercoasters or long big mountains. All packed up with tremendous heritage, history…very remarkable the city of Solsona itself with its cathedral, Jewish quarter, and castle. We will ride through it all during the warm-up ride.

Down to the Wine Capital of Catalonia, the Penedes and Garraf area and the beautiful Mediterranean town of Sitges. Once there our ride leaders will show you their secret training rides, …not just great cycling quality miles…but pretty, pretty spots…this Sitges warm up ride will provide amazing views to the ocean, to vineyards…to an endless sections of hills. 100% Mediterranean style.

We will reach the ski resort of Port Del Comte coming from the gravel road of Montnou and its extension called “DENTS DEL DIABLE (Devil’s teeth)”… a spectacular climb that lately tons of local riders are attending even on regular road bikes, crazy…better stick to our gravel bikes. Hands down, when it comes to elevation gain, this will be the Queen stage of the trip.
