Bienvenidos a La Vuelta
Our trip to La Vuelta actually starts in France this year, where our staff will meet you at Toulouse Blagnac Airport. From the airport we have a short transfer to our hotel in Lourdes. After checking into the hotel we’ll have our Orientation Meeting followed by lunch, then our guide will accompany you to visit the sanctuary in the afternoon.
Situated on the banks of the Gave de Pau river, the sanctuary of our Lady of Lourdes welcomes pilgrims and visitors from around the world throughout the year. The Tour de France had a stage start there in 2018.
Meeting Time and Place
Our guides will meet you at 9:00am - either at Toulouse Blagnac Airport or at the Pullman Toulouse Airport Hotel
Vuelta a España LIVE Viewing: Stage 9
Private Viewing on the final climb to the Col du Tourmalet
We bet you never thought you would get to experience one of the most famous Tour de France climbs on a La Vuelta Trip! Get ready to experience the legendary Col du Tourmalet. The Vuelta makes a rare detour into France today with a massive stage over the Col d’Aubisque and a Summit Finish on top of the Col du Tourmalet and we’ll be there to witness the finish on the Tourmalet.
We’ll head up through Gave de Gavarnie river gorge, eventually arriving in Luz St Sauveur after 30km. Re tracing the 2019 Tour de France route, we will slowly climb to the summit of the Tourmalet, 20km up the road at an altiude of 2115m. Our Hospitality Marquee will be set up close to the summit where food, drinks, and satellite TV race coverage will keep you entertained as we wait for the peloton to approach. What an experience in store!
La Rioja Winery Visit
Today we will leave France and head to the Rioja region of Spain for the next stages of La Vuelta. After a free morning and lunch in Lourdes we’ll transfer to La Rioja region in Spain which sets us up nicely for the next 3 stages of La Vuelta.
And since we’re in La Rioja, we couldn’t visit Spain’s most famous wine region without organising a winery visit and wine tasting!
Vuelta a España LIVE Viewing: Stage 10
Private Viewing on the Puerto de Orduña
After the previous day’s Rest Day, the Vuelta returns to Spain with a fantastic stage in La Rioja and a great race-viewing opportunity on the 1st Category Puerto de Orduña. It’s not often that we get to witness the race twice on the same day, but we’ll get that rare opportunity today with the peloton climbing the Puerto de Orduña twice, the second time just 18 km from the Finish.
Our Hospitality Marquee will be set up close to the summit of the Orduña where food, drinks, and satellite TV race coverage will keep you entertained as we wait for the peloton to approach - not once, but twice!
Vuelta a España LIVE Viewing: Stage 11
Private Viewing at the Summit Finish on the Alto de Moncalvillo
Our journey today will take place on the actual Race Route of Stage 11 of La Vuelta, so you can see first hand what’s in store for the cyclists. From our hotel in Navarette we pick up the Race Route, then stay on the race route over the Puerto de la Rasa and all the way to the summit finish on the Alto de Moncalvillo. With an average grade of 9% over 8km, the climb to Moncalvillo will certainly favour the true climbers and we could see huge gaps opening up in the GC today.
Our Hospitality Marquee will be set up close to the Finish in Moncalvillo where food, drinks, and satellite TV race coverage will keep you entertained as we wait for the peloton to approach.
Vuelta a España LIVE Viewing: Stage 12
The Stage Start in Castrillo del Val
Stage starts at La Vuelta offer fantastic opportunities to get up-close to the riders, the race celebrities and get a first-hand view of the inner workings of La Vuelta. This is the place to get these all-important souvenirs, gifts, autographs and photos with the riders.
After waving goodbye to the peloton as they head out on the 164km route to Aguilar de Campoo, we’ll transfer to our next hotel in Cangas de Onis, nicely situated close to the bottom of a certain climb to Lagos de Covadonga. In the afternoon, enjoy a visit into the picturesque town of Cangas de Onis with it’s 13th century bridge over the River Sella.
The Basilica at Covadonga becomes visible long before you reach it as sits perched half way up a mountain. Given the setting, grandiose design and the overall mystique of the Covadonga, this quite probably may be one of the most awe inspiring sights that you are ever likely to see. We’ll visit the Basilica and Cathedral.
After visiting the Covadonga Basilica we’ll head up to see the glacial lakes, taking the famous road that has seen many cyclists suffer as they have headed to the summit on previous races at La Vuelta.
Vuelta a España LIVE Viewing: Stage 14
Private Viewing at the Summit Finish on the Alto La Farrapona
The mountains return to the Vuelta today with no less than 5 categorised climbs and a Summit Finish on the final 18km climb to the Alto La Farrapona.
Driving from the hotel, we’ll pick up the race route on the final climb to La Farrapona, passing the many avid fans on the way up. Our Hospitality Marquee will be set up close to the Finish on La Farrapona where food, drinks, and satellite TV race coverage will keep you entertained as we wait for the peloton to approach. It’s all about the mountain viewings that you love!
Vuelta a España LIVE Viewing: Stage 15
Private Viewing at the Summit Finish on the Angliru
This is the day we’ve all been waiting for. The Angliru is considered the toughest climb in European pro racing and the Summit Finish takes centre stage today.
We’ll be driving up some of the climb and it has to be seen to be believed! We’ll head up the Angliru to our Hospitality Marquee, which will be set up on the climb. As usual we’ll have food, drinks, and satellite TV race coverage to keep you entertained as we wait for the peloton to approach. For the riders the fun doesn’t really start until the final 6km and the grades get up into double figures. Les Cabanes is the first really steep section with grades of 22% but the pain really sets in on the Cuena les Cabres section which hits 23.5%! It’s going to be amazing cheering them on as they go past our vantage point. An amazing finale to a fantastic trip to La Vuelta!
Adios & hasta pronto!
Unfortunately our trip to the Vuelta has come to an end. Our staff will drop you off at Oviedo (Asturias) Airport at 8:00am.
