If you have ever had a doubt about doing a Spectator tour with Thomson’s, do NOT doubt. You will go places you NEVER expected, see and MEET people you never thought possible, be photographed with announcers, riders, mechanics, sport directors, etc. It is the most amazing experience you will ever witness in the pro cycling world. If you know and understand cycling this is for you, because you have no idea what it takes to put on a race like this. If you know a little or nothing about pro cycling be prepared to be swept off your feet. Dare I say you meet some of the nicest people who are your fellow guests, some remain friends for years. Can’t wait for my next trip. Chapeau!.
Jacinta McHale is a super-star of hospitality and planning….she made our experience what it was…she made our dreams come true! She is the tour!!
Great trip. I would recommend a Thomson tour to anyone who wanted to see professional cycling.
Thomson spectator tour went above and beyond. All my expectations were met. I had a dream vacation!
A truly “bucket list” trip! Every thing was so well organized and at a top level experience!! As Spectators, I enjoyed watching the level of organization for the riders as well! ALL the Thompson people were extremely personal and a pleasure to talk to everyone! Also got to speak to Peter and was very appreciative of the time he spent with me just discussing the whole Tour! Fantastic experience!! THANK YOU!!
Thomson Tours is the ultimate in VIP Spectator Experiences. Their guide, Jacinta, is so knowledgeable and super fun. She took 10 strangers and turned us into friends in a week - all while viewing the biggest cycling race of the year.
The trip to the Tour de France in the Alps in 2017 was one of the top 3 trips that i have taken. The organization was superb and the access to riders and teams was really good. Jacinta our guide made all this happen. We also had a fun time. We were the group that modeled the KISS band and were on the road side 2K from the summit of Galibier. What more can you ask for!
Thomson Spectator tours are amazing. They bring complete strangers together and make a crazy family together for a week or 10 days. Some of us remain friends for a long time after the Tour is over. Much attention is given to detail. TDF is a moving object many snap decisions need to be made to accommodate. Thomson does this well. Kudos.
Amazing! Could not have been better! Exceeded expectations!
Jacinta was excellent in everything! She was fun and made the group bonded easily. We were 10 strangers and became friends within hours. Thanks to her for an enjoyable trip!
From start to finish the trip was first class.Great group to travel with. Jacinta was unbelievable. She made the trip. Would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to view the tour. Our trip included the novice to a 75 year old that new all teams and riders.
I came with high expectations of the entire spectator experience and it was exceeded manyfold in many ways. Thank you!!!!
As a Tour de France junkie, this trip let me actually feel the nature of the event. We got to experience the start, the finish, the mountains, the parade of advertisers prior to the riders, the Tour village and even got to meet some of our favorite announcers.
The trip exceeded all expectations. The group was outstanding, staff exceptional & the tour activities were exciting. I was exhilarated & exhausted at the end of most days. I loved how close we got to the cyclists, that Jacinta got us to our destinations ahead of crowds, seeing how the Tour works, being at mountain stages, being at the finish line & enjoying the VIP tents. I am now more than a bit spoiled. I have watched the Tour for more than 20 years & this trip was fabulous.
The trip was awesome. Every day exceeded my expectations. Getting in so close to all the action and the personalities brought a new dimension to the Tour De France. Watching it every year on TV will bring back many memories and appreciation for what is happening on the ground. Our tour guide, Jacinta’s passion was contagious and made every day a blast from departing the hotel after breakfast till arriving back many exciting hours later. We were so fortunate to have someone that made all the logistics work ensuring that we got the best experience possible. What seemed like an overkill on logistics and arrangements on day one quickly became a recipe for success ensuring we had front row seats at each vantage point. Thank you for a unforgettable experience Thomson Bike Tours and Jacinta.
Great experience ever and great hostess, nice people
Seeing the TDF was a bucket list item for me and I can truly say I have ticket this off the list in style. The spectator trip was a well thought out and balanced trip that gave us a up front and personal taste of the most important aspects of the TDF. A sprint finish, meeting a team on a rest day, a mountain top finish, a start and the finale on the Champs Elysee on the finish line. Thank you Thomsons and very specifically Jacinta, our guide that went well above and beyond her duties and exceed all our expectations.
Fantastic! A trip the combines the excitement of watching TDF on site, opportunity of close look of behind scene events, stunning scenery, and gourmet food all together. A dream come true experience.

Rest Day - visit a pro team at their hotel
Our staff will meet you at Marseille Airport. From the Airport we will transfer to Nimes, where we will be staying for the first 2 nights. En route we have a treat in store! Thomson Spectator Tours are partners with Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka and today we will visit the team at their hotel! We’ll have an exclusive behind the scenes visit on their rest day! A pro Team Executive will give you an amazing insight into how a pro team works as well as the charity they help to fund. You can see the team bus, the bikes and equipment and be let in on some team secrets. If you’re lucky we’ll even see the team head off on their training ride! It’s an absolute favorite on our Spectators’ Trip - a real VIP experience giving unparalleled access and amazing memories. After checking-in to the hotel, we’ll have a short orientation meeting to run through the plans for the upcoming week.
Meeting Time and Place
Our guides will meet you at 8:00am - at Marseille Airport.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 16
VIP Access to the Stage Finish in Nimes
We don’t have far to travel today to witness the thrill of a finish! We are in a unique position to be in the same city where the race will start, so in the morning Jacinta will escort you to the area where you can watch, as the locals do, the race head off. After lunch we will head to our VIP area by the finish line, a 3-tiered viewing area with complimentary appetizers, drinks, official TDF photos and excellent views of the race. A tour of the technical village will bring us up close to the finish line itself, see the inside of the media and TV crew area (maybe Phil and Jens will say hi), view the podium and get a real insight into the arrival area. Back to our viewing area, we will await the riders to cross the finish line. A true VIP experience!
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 17
VIP Access to the Departure Village at the Stage Start at Pont du Gard
Today we are heading to the mountains, but not before a real treat! As an Official Tour Operator, we have secured a visit of the ‘Team Paddock’ and Departure Village stage start in Pont du Gard. You saw the race start yesterday as the public do, and today you are VIPs! The Departure Village allows you to see sponsors and gain VIP entry, perhaps even meeting past winners of the race. Then, it’s onto our favorite - the paddock, where all the cyclists and teams congregate pre-race. The area offers fantastic opportunities to get up-close to the riders and Tour celebrities, as well as giving a first-hand view of the inner workings of the Tour de France. This is the place to get those all-important autographs and pictures with the Tour celebrities and riders. It’s one of the most popular moments on our Spectator Trips! Then fasten your seat belts as we take the journey into the Majestic Alps.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 18
VIP Viewing at the Relais Etape
You will have sampled every aspect of being a VIP! In the morning we will drive towards Valloire and we will head to our VIP area to be greeted by our hostess and ex pro riders. The Relais Etape is situated on the course, generally within a few kms from the end, though geography dictates, it allows us to view the race in VIP style. A 3-course meal, free bar, live coverage on TV, until the cyclists pass right on front of us live, is an amazing way to watch a stage! You can feel the excitement build as you watch official vehicles zoom by, hear the helicopters above as they track the cyclists getting nearer and nearer and get a roadside view as they pass by! A Tour de France gift is presented as a reminder of a great day.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 19
VIP Access to the Stage Finish in Tignes
You experienced this in Nimes, but now it’s mountain time! Jacinta used to live in Tignes, which hosts today’s finish, in its majestic mountains! Tignes is neighbor to the famous and chic Val d’Isere ski resort and Espace Killey ski area, with its year-round glacier. We’ll head up there early, over the road the cyclists will take later, as they wind their way up the mountains. Tignes is a typical Alpine summer destination and we’ll have lunch and soak up the beautiful scenery. Then we will head to the VIP Izoard Tribune, our 3-tiered platform, to view the race in style, as only VIPs know how!
The Road To Paris
Today as the race has its penultimate day, we avoid the chaos and head north to Paris, in time to watch the last mountain stage unfold from the luxury of our palatial hotel! As opposed to rushing up in the very early hours of the final day, we like to arrive the day before - our luxury Hotel is far too stunning and exquisite not to spend an extra night there. We aim to arrive early afternoon and plan for the group to get together in the hotel bar to watch the stage live on television. In the evening we will have a dinner cruise on the River Seine. What a magical way to spend the evening and see the Paris attractions twinkling in the night sky! The atmosphere will be amazing the day before the Tour de France arrives in town.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 21
VIP Access to the Rive Gauche Tribune on the Champs-Elysees in Paris
Bonjour Paris! No rush for us today. This morning you can have free time to recuperate or have a leisurely wander around the Parisian streets taking a coffee in one of the many chic neighborhoods. Early afternoon we’ll head over to the Champs-Elysees where our Tour de France hostess will escort us to the VIP Viewing area on the Rive Gauche. Champagne aperitif, open bar, cocktail party, French culinary show and live entertainment are all included in this fantastic VIP package leading up to the race! The riders will enter Paris for the traditional circuit race around the Champs-Elysees.
After the race, there’s a great photo and meet opportunity as the teams take a celebratory ride down the Champs-Elysees and the Tour de France sadly draws to a close for another year.
A truly memorable day after a truly memorable once in a lifetime trip!
Unfortunately, our Tour de France Experience must come to an end. We hope to see you on a future trip, perhaps at La Vuelta, the World Cycling Champs, the Tour Down Under, the Spring Classics or the AMGEN Tour of California.
