Bienvenue en France
Rest Day - visit a pro team at their hotel
Our staff will meet you at Marseille Airport. From the Airport we will transfer to Nimes, where we will be staying for the first 2 nights. En route we have a treat in store! Thomson Spectator Tours are partners with Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka and today we will visit the team at their hotel! We’ll have an exclusive behind the scenes visit on their rest day! A pro Team Executive will give you an amazing insight into how a pro team works as well as the charity they help to fund. You can see the team bus, the bikes and equipment and be let in on some team secrets. If you’re lucky we’ll even see the team head off on their training ride! It’s an absolute favorite on our Spectators’ Trip - a real VIP experience giving unparalleled access and amazing memories. After checking-in to the hotel, we’ll have a short orientation meeting to run through the plans for the upcoming week.
Meeting Time and Place
Our guides will meet you at 8:00am - at Marseille Airport.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 16
VIP Access to the Stage Finish in Nimes
We don’t have far to travel today to witness the thrill of a finish! We are in a unique position to be in the same city where the race will start, so in the morning Jacinta will escort you to the area where you can watch, as the locals do, the race head off. After lunch we will head to our VIP area by the finish line, a 3-tiered viewing area with complimentary appetizers, drinks, official TDF photos and excellent views of the race. A tour of the technical village will bring us up close to the finish line itself, see the inside of the media and TV crew area (maybe Phil and Jens will say hi), view the podium and get a real insight into the arrival area. Back to our viewing area, we will await the riders to cross the finish line. A true VIP experience!
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 17
VIP Access to the Departure Village at the Stage Start at Pont du Gard
Today we are heading to the mountains, but not before a real treat! As an Official Tour Operator, we have secured a visit of the ‘Team Paddock’ and Departure Village stage start in Pont du Gard. You saw the race start yesterday as the public do, and today you are VIPs! The Departure Village allows you to see sponsors and gain VIP entry, perhaps even meeting past winners of the race. Then, it’s onto our favorite - the paddock, where all the cyclists and teams congregate pre-race. The area offers fantastic opportunities to get up-close to the riders and Tour celebrities, as well as giving a first-hand view of the inner workings of the Tour de France. This is the place to get those all-important autographs and pictures with the Tour celebrities and riders. It’s one of the most popular moments on our Spectator Trips! Then fasten your seat belts as we take the journey into the Majestic Alps.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 18
VIP Viewing at the Relais Etape
You will have sampled every aspect of being a VIP! In the morning we will drive towards Valloire and we will head to our VIP area to be greeted by our hostess and ex pro riders. The Relais Etape is situated on the course, generally within a few kms from the end, though geography dictates, it allows us to view the race in VIP style. A 3-course meal, free bar, live coverage on TV, until the cyclists pass right on front of us live, is an amazing way to watch a stage! You can feel the excitement build as you watch official vehicles zoom by, hear the helicopters above as they track the cyclists getting nearer and nearer and get a roadside view as they pass by! A Tour de France gift is presented as a reminder of a great day.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 19
VIP Access to the Stage Finish in Tignes
You experienced this in Nimes, but now it’s mountain time! Jacinta used to live in Tignes, which hosts today’s finish, in its majestic mountains! Tignes is neighbor to the famous and chic Val d’Isere ski resort and Espace Killey ski area, with its year-round glacier. We’ll head up there early, over the road the cyclists will take later, as they wind their way up the mountains. Tignes is a typical Alpine summer destination and we’ll have lunch and soak up the beautiful scenery. Then we will head to the VIP Izoard Tribune, our 3-tiered platform, to view the race in style, as only VIPs know how!
The Road To Paris
Today as the race has its penultimate day, we avoid the chaos and head north to Paris, in time to watch the last mountain stage unfold from the luxury of our palatial hotel! As opposed to rushing up in the very early hours of the final day, we like to arrive the day before - our luxury Hotel is far too stunning and exquisite not to spend an extra night there. We aim to arrive early afternoon and plan for the group to get together in the hotel bar to watch the stage live on television. In the evening we will have a dinner cruise on the River Seine. What a magical way to spend the evening and see the Paris attractions twinkling in the night sky! The atmosphere will be amazing the day before the Tour de France arrives in town.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 21
VIP Access to the Rive Gauche Tribune on the Champs-Elysees in Paris
Bonjour Paris! No rush for us today. This morning you can have free time to recuperate or have a leisurely wander around the Parisian streets taking a coffee in one of the many chic neighborhoods. Early afternoon we’ll head over to the Champs-Elysees where our Tour de France hostess will escort us to the VIP Viewing area on the Rive Gauche. Champagne aperitif, open bar, cocktail party, French culinary show and live entertainment are all included in this fantastic VIP package leading up to the race! The riders will enter Paris for the traditional circuit race around the Champs-Elysees.
After the race, there’s a great photo and meet opportunity as the teams take a celebratory ride down the Champs-Elysees and the Tour de France sadly draws to a close for another year.
A truly memorable day after a truly memorable once in a lifetime trip!
Unfortunately, our Tour de France Experience must come to an end. We hope to see you on a future trip, perhaps at La Vuelta, the World Cycling Champs, the Tour Down Under, the Spring Classics or the AMGEN Tour of California.
