The staff all worked very hard and I enjoyed myself more than I thought. Thank you!
Thomson Bike Tours gave me one of the best weeks I have ever had on the bike. It is a combination of route and scenery, service and staff, and people you get to ride with along the way—It really is a top notch tour with great rides, staff, service, clients and scenery. It will challenge you, but the rewards and the conversation after with your tour group will make each day an adventure.
Absolutely brilliant. Meticulous organisation and planning. Staff were extremely professional, supportive and encouraging. There was plenty of ride options for people of different speeds and abilities over various distances, so a rider of any ability could enjoy the cycling without the pressure of slowing down other riders. I will definitely be back and will be recommending Thomson to all my cycling friends.
The Tour de France - Alps trip was a breath of fresh air! What stood out for me was being able to test my limits and find new friends on every switchback! Each night at the group dinner we would talk about our challenges and triumphs with the riders in our group. All of the riders supported each other and the camaraderie was amazing. Work and daily life was left behind just for a moment and the joy of cycling in a such a beautiful place with fantastic supportive staff became the days “to do” list! The only thing better is waking up and being able to do it all again. Thank you Thomson for a trip of a life time!
The trip exceeded my expectations. I never thought I would connect this well with a random group of riders, but I left with new friends and was grateful to get to share this experience with them. The Thomson tour guides were amazing and helped motivate me on difficult climbs and make the trip even more special. The rides were challenging and the views were distracting and far more beautiful than I had imagined. I look forward to my next adventure with Thomson!
I was disappointed to be reflecting most days on the lack of attention to detail, safety and support I had become accustomed to from Thomson. This certainly took the gloss of what is generally a great experience. While there are a number of great Thomson staff, I felt the attempt to extend the experience to a group of 70 riders meant we ended up with a larger group of inexperienced staff that did not have the same experience and care factor. When issues were mentioned during the trip I received generally unhelpful or defensive responses. Many of these issues impacted directly on safety including riding on closed roads, group members being left behind, lack of briefing on dangers of particular routes, etc.
The trip was fantastic! Peter, the organizers, ride leaders and mechanics were all well beyond my best expectations, not to mention that they were a pleasure to spend time with and get to know. This was a great experience, both for the riding (and it was tough), the beauty, and the access to the TDF.
Great experience. Challenging cycling in the beautiful Alps. Well organized, dedicated staff with a passion for cycling. Great access to the Tour.
Appreciated that Peter was clear on the risks of descending (including death) before the serious accident on Thursday. Only other negative was that Kate Veronneau was not a ride leader!
The trip was a dream fulfilled. Each ride was well planned and supported. I always felt that my capabilities were understood and catered to.
The experience for more than I had hoped for. The rides were epic and exhilarating. Support was right on spot for drinks, snacks, encouragement, etc.
An amazing experience, excellent support, great company, beyond what I expected
Amazing trip ! The staff is incredible and agenda was so much fun . My expectations were high and Thomson bike tours exceeded all expectations !
The riding and TDF experience were great. The leaders and support as well as routes chosen were perfect! The hotel food was disappointing. The accommodations were fair.
Truly a great cycling experience and a big reason why is the that the Thomson Team were outstanding. Thank You!

Bienvenue en France!
Our staff will meet you at Lyon St Exupery Airport. From the airport we have a short transfer to our hotel near Chambery. After checking into the hotel we’ll have our Orientation Meeting followed by lunch, then our mechanics will be on hand to help you get the bikes ready for the first ride.
Our first challenge in the Alps comes after 17km with the climb of the Cat 2, Col du Marocaz. With an average grade of 8% over 7km, the Marocaz sets the tone for the week ahead!
Meeting Time and Place
Our guides will meet you at 9:00am - either at Lyon St Exupery Airport or at the Hotel NH Lyon Airport
The climb to Semnoz was the climax of the 100th edition of the Tour de France back in 2013. On that day Nairo Quintana won the stage but overall victory had already been sealed by Chris Froome.
Semnoz is the highlight of our ride today but to get there we’ll have to climb over the Col des Pres. From the summit enjoy the quiet roads through the Massif des Bauges Natural Park which lead to Viuz-le Chiesaz and the start of the climb to Semnoz. This is our biggest day but the spectacular views of the Alps & Lake Annecy make it well worth the effort.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 10
Private Viewing on the Col de Glieres
The Tour de France enters the Alps today for the first of 3 key mountain stages. Our teams will have set up our Race-Viewing Hospitality Marquee on the gravel section of the Col de Glieres for a unique race-viewing experience.
After a short transfer to Albertville, we’ll climb the Col de L’Epine then join the race route on the Col de la Croix Fry. Expect to be cheered on by thousands of passionate Tour fans as we climb the Croix Fry. From the summit we descend to Entremont where we start the climb to the Col de Glieres.
When you reach our Hospitality Marquee you’ll have earned your race day afternoon! Enjoy the wild Tour de France scene from the comfort of our tents. Food, drinks, and satellite TV race coverage will keep you entertained as we wait for the peloton to approach.
We’ll begin the day with a short transfer to La Chambre where we’ll start our ride. First up is the incredible climb up the Lacets de Montvernier switchbacks - a huge success in the 2015 Tour de France and included in Stage 12 of this years Tour. A short ride along the valley takes us to the start of the Col du Telegraphe followed by the climb to the famous Galibier.
At 2645m (8678ft), the Galibier is the highest point of our trip and is one of the most spectacular and majestic climbs in Europe. Enjoy!
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 12
ALPE D’HUEZ: Official Ride across the Finish Line & VIP access to the Stage Finish
Today is your opportunity to test yourself on the most famous of all climbs - the 21 switchbacks that lead to Alpe d’Huez! Our hotel is located at the top of this famous mountain so we’ll start the day with the descent through Vilard Reculas to Allemont. From Allemont, we’ll enjoy the short climb to Vaujany then the descent to Bourg d’Oisans and the start of the climb to the iconic and infinitely rewarding Alpe d’Huez.
The Tour de France actually finishes on top of Alpe d’Huez today, so we’ll watch the stage finish from the luxury of the Official VIP tribune, directly on the Finish Line, plus we will have the amazing opportunity to ride our bikes across the official finish line and have our photo taken on the race podium.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 13
VIP access to the Stage Start in Bourg d’Oisans
An intensive Tour day today with a VIP visit to the Departure Village. The “village” offers fantastic opportunities to get up-close to the riders, the Tour celebrities and get a first-hand view of the inner workings of the Tour de France. This is the place to get these all-important souvenirs, gifts, autographs and pictures with the riders.
After the start of the race, we’ll head out on the bikes for our final ride. We have a truly stunning ride in store with the climb up the Col de Sarenne - the lesser-known “back door” to Alpe d’Huez. On the way to the Sarenne we’ll climb up the equally impressive ridge that leads to Mont de Lans.
Unfortunately, our trip must come to an end. Our shuttle will take you to Lyon St Exupery Airport, arriving at approximately 9:30am.
