Bienvenue en France!
Our staff will meet you at Lyon St Exupery Airport. From the airport we have a short transfer to our hotel in Alpe d’Huez. After checking into the hotel we’ll have our Orientation Meeting followed by lunch, then our mechanics will be on hand to help you get the bikes ready for the first ride.
We’ll kick off our week in the Alps with a couple of short climbs high above Alpe d’Huez. Leaving the hotel we’ll take the Route de Lacs which climbs over the Col du Poutran to an elevation of over 2100m. Next on our itinerary is the short climb to the Col de Sarenne before heading back to the hotel in Alpe d’Huez. Pray for clear skies today as both of these climbs offer incredible views of the surrounding Grandes Rousses Massif mountain range.
Meeting Time and Place
Our guides will meet you at 8:30am - either at Lyon St Exupery Airport or at the Hotel NH Lyon Airport
Today is your opportunity to test yourself on the most famous of all climbs - the 21 switchbacks that lead to Alpe d’Huez!
Our hotel is located at the top of this famous mountain so we’ll start the day with the descent through Vilard Reculas to Allemond. From Allemond it’s a short ride to Bourg d’Oisans and the start of the climb to Alpe d’Huez. This time round we’ll only climb the first 3km before turning off in La Garde onto one of the most spectacular roads in the Alps: the panoramic road to Le Freney.
From Le Freney, we’ll head back down the valley to Bourg d’Oisans. This time we’ll climb all of the iconic 21 switchbacks to Alpe d’Huez. Enjoy!
Col de la Croix de Fer
Our most challenging ride of the week with 2 major climbs to conquer: the legendary Col de la Croix de Fer and the Pas de la Confession climb through Vilard-Reculas and up to Alpe d’Huez.
We’ll start the ride with the 14km descent from Alpe d’Huez to Bourg d’Oisans followed by 8km of flat valley roads before we reach Rochetaillée. The Croix de Fer lies 31km up the road at an average grade of almost 6% so be careful to pace yourself on this challenging cimb. We’ll turn around at the summit and head back down to Allemond where we start the beautiful climb to Pas de la Confession, the back-way into Alpe d’Huez.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 18
Official Ride across the Finish Line, Photo Shoot on the Podium & VIP access to the Stage Finish
A unique opportunity today to ride your bike across the Official Finish Line just a few hours before the peloton - followed by a photo shoot on the Official Podium. We’ll round off an amazing Tour de France day by witnessing the Race Finish from the VIP Finish Line Tribune.
The Tour de France enters the Alps today with a huge stage that will take the peloton over the Col du Galibier before the finish in Valloire. From our hotel we’ll ride over the Col du Lautaret and the Col du Galibier to Valloire where our Tour de France hosts will meet us for a thrilling VIP afternoon at the Race Finish.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 19
Private Viewing on the climb to the Col d’Iseran
The second of 3 big Alpine stages sees the riders head over the highest point of the race (and the highest paved pass in the Alps): the 2770m Col de L’Iseran! Of course we couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to witness the peloton on this classic climb. Our Logistics Team will have set up our Race-Viewing Hospitality Marquee on the side of the mountain, a few km from the summit of the Col de L’Iseran.
From the hotel we’ll have a short van transfer to Modane where we’ll jump on the bikes and start the ride to the Iseran. After 24km we reach the town of Lanslebourg which signals the start of the 30km climb to the Col de L’Iseran. The route will be lined by thousands of passionate Tour fans waiting for the peloton to come through in a few hours. Enjoy the wild Tour de France scene from the comfort of our Hospitality Marquee. Food, drinks, and satellite TV race coverage will keep you entertained as we wait for the peloton to approach.
Tour de France LIVE Viewing: Stage 20
VIP access to the Stage Start in Albertville
Our last day in the Alps and you have a couple of options to choose from:
Option 1: head over to Albertville for access to the VIP Departure Village area at the Start of the Stage. The Departure Village is a great place to meet the riders and get some great photos, autographs etc. The TDF peloton will head out around lunchtime and afterwards we’ll head back to the Hotel where our staff will have set up our TV’s so we can watch the end of the Final Mountain Stage and celebrate with a few drinks before dinner.
Option 2: join our ride leaders for a stunning ride through the Massif des Bauges Natural Park. We have 2 classic climbs on the agenda: Mont Revard and the Col des Pres. After the ride we’ll meet the rest of the group in the Hotel Bar to watch the end of the Final Mountain Stage and celebrate with a few drinks before dinner.
Unfortunately, our trip must come to an end. Our shuttle will take you to Lyon St Exupery Airport, arriving at 9:00am.
