Le Col de Val Louron-Azet
Our weekend Escapada starts at the Escapa Shop in Girona where our team will meet you before the transfer to our hotel in St Lary Soulan.
After lunch at the hotel we’ll get the bikes out for our first ride in the French Pyrenees. The hotel is perfectly situated at the bottom of one of the most beautiful cols in the Pyrenees, the 11km Col de Val Louron-Azet with it’s spectacular views towards the border with Spain.
At Thomson we’re always looking to get you off the beaten track and on to the lesser-known routes and we’ll do just that on the ride back to the hotel. We’ll leave the main road and climb the unknown Col de Ris before dropping down to Arreau and the final stretch back to the hotel.
The King of all Pyreneen cimbs sets the scene for a spectacular finish to todays Tour de France Stage. The Tourmalet hasn’t seen a Stage Finish since Alberto Contador held off Andy Schleck on the climb to the Tourmalet to go on to win the 2010 Tour de France.
The Tourmalet is back this year and with Thomson Bike Tours you can have the priviledge of watching the Stage Finish from the VIP Tribune. Before watching the professionals you’ll also ride up the Tourmalet then have the unique opportunty to ride across the Finish Line on closed roads before thousands of passionate fans. After crossing the Finish Line you’ll be invited to the Official Podium for an official photo shoot. Unique! After the photo shoot we’ll head over to the Official VIP Tribune for a luxury afternoon of race action on this Queen Pyreneen Stage!
Col de Portet
The 2018 Tour de France saw the introduction of another massive climb in the Pyrenees that will surely go on to become a legend. 17km with an average gradient of 8.3% makes the Col de Portet the most challenging climb in the French Pyrenees - so we couldn’t leave the Pyrenees without conquering this monster climb.
The great news is that the climb literally starts at the door of our hotel!
After conquering this latest Pyreneen legend we’ll enjoy a final lunch at the hotel then our team will transfer you back to Girona.
